Aims of the project

Opera Nova’s main aim is to make opera appealing to local audiences and to develop the talents of local singers.

Opera Nova believe that everyone has an entitlement to participate in and enjoy singing and live music and drama of all kinds, including opera. The personal, health and social benefits of singing in a group and enjoying live music and drama cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, people in some communities have had little or no opportunity to engage with opera because they cannot afford travel to distant theatres or hugely expensive ticket prices.

By taking opera into schools and colleges we will ensure that all age groups are included. By performing in easily accessible community venues at affordable ticket prices, we will enable many more people to participate. By performing in public areas such as shopping centres, we will reach passersby and introduce them to the excitement of a live opera performance. We are aiming to attract new audiences to opera / classical music and new participants to singing and acting opera / musical theatre, especially children and young people.
