What a wonderful first half-term we had with our Reception children. So much quality learning has taken place and so many improvements made. We have been learning to write our names, read and write Phase 2 letter sounds, hearing initial and other sounds in words, counting forwards and backwards, ordering Numicon tiles, reading and writing numerals to 20, creating salt-dough super worms, painting frogs we even had a visit to the local theatre! Thank you so much for all your support, we are looking forward to the rest of the year with our fantastic Reception children.
This half term, we will be focusing on the stories 'Oi Frog' by Kes Gray, 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson and a range of Christmas stories in December.
In class, children have the opportunity to explore all of the areas which includes paint, water, sand, Lego, building, home corner, iPad station, games station, maths, reading and writing. The areas are set up according to the focus of the topic and the books that we are reading in order for the children to extend their learning.
Look out for some new pictures on here and twitter as the children explore their learning environment! Continue to use our class dojo page for our weekly learning and ideas and activities to support your child at home.
Sharing stories with your child at home is vital in the early stages of developing a love of reading stories and learning language.
Our children have now learnt many Phase 2 letter sounds and have now progressed onto phonics books with simple words such as dog, cat, mat etc. Please make sure your child is reading their school books using the phonics skills and techniques demonstrated in our recent parents meeting. If you have any questions please ask myself or Mrs Osborne.
New sounds and/or high frequency words will continue to be sent home weekly. Challenge your child to read and write words with these sounds in them and have a go at reading and writing simple sentences too. Use the reading books we send home and our class Dojo page to support the level of sentence writing that is appropriate for your child.
Help yourself to the homework sheets in the cloakroom. They will always support the learning that has taken place in the classroom.

Thank you for all your support with home learning! We are very impressed with the amount of home learning that is being sent through class dojo and being brought back into school to stick in the children's learning journeys.
