Welcome to our EYFS
We believe that The Early Years Foundation Stage is crucial in securing firm foundations that children can continue to build upon. It is our intent that the children who enter our EYFS develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally whilst embedding a positive attitude to school and learning. We believe that all children deserve to be valued as an individual and we are passionate in allowing all children to develop their full, unique potential. With this in mind, we begin each new school year by looking at the individual needs of our children and, taking into account their different starting points, we then carefully develop our flexible EYFS Curriculum, which enables them to follow the path of their learning journey at a point that is suitable for their unique needs and stage of development.
In EYFS, our children have lots of fun, make and develop friendships and learn many basic skills giving them the firm foundations they need to flourish. The children have the opportunity to explore all of the areas which includes water, sand, role play, finger gym, sensory play, small world, maths, reading, puzzles and investigation. The areas are set up according to the focus of the topic and the books that we are reading in order for the children to extend their learning. We strive to create a highly stimulating environment with child-accessible resources and provide rich, challenging learning opportunities through play and imaginative teaching, both indoors and outdoors.
Look out for some new pictures on our website and twitter pages as the children explore their learning environment! Continue to use our class Dojo page for our weekly learning experiences, ideas and activities to support your child at home.
Term by Term
Every child is a unique little person! We will support all children to develop a positive sense of identity and become independent learners and critical thinkers. Children will learn a wide range of skills so that they can control their own actions, make choices and always ‘do the right thing’. They will also know what they are good at and what they need to learn next.
Our curriculum is centred around high quality children’s books that are carefully chosen each year. As children can be in our EYFS for up to three years, we make sure our texts are not repeated within any three year period.
Autumn
In the Autumn Term, we read children’s favourite stories including The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Room on a Broom, Whatever Next and Dear Santa. Each year we visit the local theatre to watch one of our stories being retold by real actors and actresses, which enhances learning for the children. In EYFS, children work towards stickers and special notes home as rewards for doing ‘super-duper things’. In Reception, the children also get to move their busy bee around the rainbow to earn golden tickets, leading to prizes.
Spring
In the Spring Term, we read children’s favourite stories including Lost and Found, Cinderella, 3 Billy Goats Gruff and the Enormous Turnip.
Summer
During the Summer Term we will feed find out about animals and their habitats. We will hunt for mini-beasts in our outdoor area. We will sing and make music and enjoy being transported to jungles, farms and forests. The children will enjoy reading some classic favourite stories including The Three Little Pigs, Owl Babies, Farmyard Hullabaloo and Walking Through the Jungle.
Positive Effective Partnerships
We believe in strong partnerships between staff, children, parents/carers and the wider community. We have effective relationships with private child-care settings, our school nursing team, speech & language therapists and many other external providers.
We provide many opportunities for parents/carers to be involved in their child’s learning at home and at school. We value parents/carers knowledge and understanding about their children and work together to make sure every child reaches their full learning potential. We will listen to parents/carers needs and offer a variety of support sessions, for example, having a cuppa and chat, workshops linked to areas of learning or ‘drop in sessions’ to discuss anything. Parents are given the opportunity to take part in ‘Early words together’ sessions with their child in school led by a specially trained team.
This year we will continue to use Class Dojo as a communication tool between home and school.
To Conclude
Our children will grow and develop significantly over their time in EYFS and in July of Reception, our parents and carers will shed tears of pride when they watch their unique little one graduate!
