What's Happening in Nursery
This term in Nursery we will be focussing on two lovely books, Superworm and Oi Frog! We will be concentrating on rhyme, story language and developing a love for books. If your child has any rhyming books or Julia Donaldson books at home we would love for them to bring them in to share. At the end of this half term we will be visiting Billingham Forum where Oi Frog will coming alive! Information will follow.
We continue to count on a daily basis and sing our days of the week songs. We are getting confident at recognising numbers in the environment and touch counting in our play.
Phonics has been something to really celebrate in Nursery and we are very proud of our children and the progress they are making. We are exploring sounds in our environment and learning rhymes and songs. We have also begun to learn some letter sounds too- we are getting very good at finding them in our names and in our Nursery environment too!
As part of our work on Superworm we would like to set up a worm farm. Do any of our lovely parents have any skills in this area? Please let us know if you do... :)
Nursery Homework
We greatly value all of the support that we get from Parents and Carers. It is always lovely when children bring things in from home that are linked to what we are working on in School. We encourage you to do this. Our children take a new book home every Friday, please read, share and talk about the story with your child. This helps to build up their vocabulary and to begin to have a real understanding of the way in which stories work. Please sign your child's reading record and they will get a sticker on the chart.
To help your child at home with phonics we would love you to help with rhyme, singing Nursery rhymes, reading rhyming books and just playing with language. To be able to rhyme is a crucial, early phonics skill. It would also enhance their listening skills if you could talk about the sounds that you hear in every day life, a running tap, birdsong, a crinkling packet of crisps. Stop and listen when you are out and about, "What can you hear?" We are learning the Jolly Phonics songs alongside our Phonics teaching and encourage parents to sing them at home too!
In maths we are working on basic numeral recognition and counting, touching objects as we count. We are also talking about shapes in the environment and positional language.
Thank-you for the help that you give your child at home, it is greatly appreciated- we love working with you for the good of the children.

Nursery Celebration
Our children respond so positively to praise. We have a positive ethos in Nursery and give verbal praise constantly. This could be for anything and everything, using the toilet, holding a pencil well, telling us about something they have done....... the list is endless! What is important is that the praise and the joy is embedded in Nursery life. We welcome our parents to share on a 'proud cloud' the wonderful things the children have been doing at home too!
We give our children stickers, certificates, a round of applause, a smile and of course the greatest accolade of all - "Star of the week"
The "Star of the week" gets to take home the bag with the bear for a fun weekend. On return to Nursery your child will lead a circle time, talking about what they have been up to with bear.
