WELCOME TO YEAR 4
Year 4 is being taught by Mrs Robinson and Mrs Harrington.
We are a hard working group who love a challenge.
Monday to Thursday we concentrate on Reading, Writing and Maths, whilst on a Friday our learning takes us on a journey of discovery focusing on Science and the other subjects of the curriculum.

What's Happening in Year 4
Welcome back for the summer term!
Our topic for the whole of the summer term is Africa. We will ensure that the lessons are cross curricular, so that our learning is reinforced at every opportunity.
In English lessons, we will write in a range of different styles, including a diary extract, a retelling of a typical African folk tale, a formal letter and our own narrative. We will incorporate weekly G.P.S. lessons into our success criteria, to practise and perfect our technique. Our book, which will provide the main focus in reading lessons, is A Walk to Water.
In Maths, we will continue learning our times table and linked division facts. We are practising application of our written methods to help solve problems. All children have a Times Table Rockstar username and password so they can practise at home too!
Sound will be our topic in science. The children will identify how sounds are made, learn about volume and investigate how sound travels.
In addition to our Africa, we will be continuing with our weekly spellings, Nifty Fifty, and our Pokémon reading. Make sure you help your child practice as much as you can at home! Word of the day has had a great impact and we will be continuing throughout the summer term.
Year 4 Homework
Children have three sets of homework each week to help develop their basic skills:
Reading - Children should read for 5-10 minutes every day, and their reading record should be brought into school at least three times a week to be checked and so books can be changed. Each time a child finishes a book they will be awarded a Pokémon from one of our Pokémon Keepers - gotta catch 'em all!
Spellings - Children are usually given their spellings to practise at home each Thursday, and we teach children how to understand rules rather than simply to remember a list of words. Children might practise by: writing the root word and then rewriting the word with the rule applied; look, cover, write and check; write the word in a sentence; being tested by a parent, friend or other family member.
Times Tables - Children complete their nifty fifty times table challenge three times each week in school. Each time a child completes a challenge, they will bring it home so you can see how well they have done and help them practise any that they got wrong.
