Hemlington Hall Academy

Year 1 Wednesday 27th January

Wednesday 27th January

Good morning. Your work for today is posted below. If you have any problems, please get in touch via Class Dojo and we will help.

We will be looking at the “ey/y” sound in Phonics. I will be hosting a Zoom Phonics lesson at 10.00am and going through this with you then.

Please have a pen and paper ready for the Zoom Phonics lesson.

Today in Writing you will be planning your character description that you will be writing on Thursday and Friday.

Here is a picture of Grannie Mainland. Can you write some words to describe her? You could write things like: red lipstick, white pearls, long fingernails. You don’t need to write in sentences today. We will be using the words you come up with today to write our descriptions on Thursday and Friday.

Here is a picture of Grannie Island

Can you write some words to describe Grannie Island? You could write something like – green boots, muddy clothes, kind smile.

Today we will be looking tens and ones.

Watch this video before completing the worksheet below.

Today we are doing the first half of the sheet.

This afternoon you will be identifying appropriate materials to use to make your lighthouse. Look at your design that you drew yesterday and think about what materials you are going to use to create your lighthouse. Will you use a bottle or a Pringles tube for the tower? Will you use strips of paper for the stripes? Will you use paint? Decide what you are going to use, then you can either write labels on your plan or write a few sentences into your book to explain what you are going to use.

If you are writing sentences, you could write something like –

I am going to use a Pringles tube for my tower. I will use a plastic cup for the lantern room. I am going to use a tea light for the lantern.

Remember to upload your work to your portfolio!
